Our Top Tips for Organized Packing on Your Next Trip

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Months before you travel it is a great idea to double check your passport expiration date and travel document requirements for your specific travel destination. Some of these documents may take time to process, so be sure to allow ample time for passport updates if necessary. Once you have everything gathered it is recommended to scan all of your travel documents into a pdf before you travel. Upload that pdf somewhere safe and password protected. That way, if something were to go wrong and you lose any of your documents, you have access to them anywhere you have an internet connection. Just make sure that you know the password off the top of your head!

OUTFIT PLANNING

Start by thinking about where you are going and what you will be doing each day. Then, dive into planning your outfits, whether it’s through mental visualization or if you are anything like us, in a color-coded spreadsheet. If you’re packing elegant attire, opt for a unified color scheme to minimize the need for multiple accessories. For instance, pack clothes that complement beige accents to eliminate the need for black heels and a matching bag. Ensure your vacation shoes are comfortable and broken-in if there’s walking involved. Blisters are the quickest way to put a damper on your trip. Have you tried Packing Cubes yet? These versatile bags allow you to neatly organize your clothing by day and roll them up to help prevent wrinkles. No need to fully unpack when you reach your destination - simply unzip the cubes as you go. If you’re packing for little ones, consider using gallon-sized zip lock bags to keep their outfits together. It may sound meticulous, but a bit of pre-travel organization leads to a more relaxing trip. Don’t forget to start checking the weather forecast for your destination a week or so before your departure and adjust your outfit plans accordingly.

BEYOND CLOTHING

Start creating a packing checklist at least a month before your trip. Utilize the notes app on your phone or jot down items on a sheet of paper tacked up in your closet. Remember to include toiletries, medications, electronics, and chargers that you use daily. Refill any medication prescriptions in advance and consider a cord organizer for your tech gadgets. Toiletries can be decanted into smaller containers, and beauty products like foundations and concealers can be placed in contact lens cases to save space in your liquids bag.
